The parasitology program (25 h) comprises:
- lectures (8 h);
- seminars (5 h);
- practical (12 h).
This course constitutes a part of the whole microbiology course. Other elements of microbiology (e.g. bacteriology, virology) are taught by the staff of the Department of Medical Microbiology. This is why exclusively students who passed both Microbiology and Parasitology course have the opportunity to take NBME examination.
The aim of the course in medical parasitology is to provide medical students with a convenient instrument for facilitation of diagnostic parasitological methods and to inquire into biology of human parasites. To reduce lecture time and to allow more time for practical training we have prepared the Study Guide which cannot, however, cover the whole field of medical parasitology. Since clinical parasitology will be taught in the later years of the medical course, descriptions of the pathogenesis, clinical symptoms and treatment of parasitic diseases are not included. What the Study Guide does give is information regarding the biology of human parasites and the diagnostics and epidemiology of the diseases they cause.
The course coordinator is dr. Piotr NOWOSAD (Ph.D.).
